Does your dog sleep to much?

How much sleep should your dog get?

Have you ever looked at your dog napping and think that is all that they do? Who wouldn’t want to be able to sleep all day? Right?!? It is actually completely normal to dogs to spend most of the day sleeping away and they are not trying to make you jealous!

Naturally Dogs Sleep More Than Humans Do

According to Dr. Evan Antin, a veterinarian in Thousand Oaks, California, says that dogs generally sleep about 12 to 14 hours a day. The amount of sleep depends on breed, age and of course activity level.

“Some breeds tend to be sleepier breeds. Your French and English Bulldogs, they like to lounge, sleep and take it easy,” Dr. Antin says. “For dogs that are more active, such as working dogs, they’ll sleep less since they’re busier.”

Age is a huge factor in how much your dog sleeps. Puppies can sleep up to 16 to 18 hours a day, while they are growing out of their puppy state. Senior dogs can spend almost the same amount of time sleeping, due to less active or it may be painful for them to move do to joint pain or arthritis.
